Peter and I both started breeding German Shepherds in 1965. Of course, that was before we met! It is interesting to note, that our first love was the German Shepherd Dog and that we have a combined 72 years of breeding experience!
I don’t think that Peter ever imagined that he would live in a household of Pugs, but they truly have changed our lives. I have been in love with Pugs since 1970 when I saw my first one in New Zealand. It would be many years before I got my first one and in the meantime I would have American Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, Shelties and even a Pekingese.
Our breeding program with Pugs started with Pearl; Ch. Rollin Pearl Jam with Gamaheu, to be exact. The light of my life and constant companion, mentor and friend. Pearl is the beginning, but she is not the end. Now that she is retired, she keeps us entertained with her bird/plane watching, and of course, she takes an active part in the raising of all the babies. She takes it upon herself to show the moms how to clean them and keep them in line when they get older.

Pearl, taking it cool!
Having moved many times, we feel fortunate to have a lovely home near Ardrossan on seven acres of open rolling land with very nice kennel facilities. The dogs have always been a big part of our lives and we have taken a lot of precautions to make sure our yard is safe and secure to protect our little guys against the coyotes that roam outside our fence line!
Our home near Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada close to Edmonton. Edmonton is a large city in the western part of Canada, in Central Alberta.

Showing in the conformation ring has always been important to us and we have been active since the beginning, making many champions under the Rutanda and Perlin kennel names. It has been our pleasure to have produced the No. 3 Pug in Canada two years in a row with Ch. Rutanda’s High Stepin’ Carter, and with BIS Ch. Perlin’s Hollywood Star. Holly was shown exclusively by JoAnn Noffsinger and both dogs were shown on a limited basis only in western Canada.

Pearl in her favorite bed,

Holly, “dog tired” from playing with the babies!
Commitment to the breed is our mandate. Participation in Breed Education, research and selective breeding of only the best dogs, including health testing of our breeding stock, is a prerequisite. It is our hope to leave the breed in better shape than we found it.
